facial plastic surgery consultation in charlotte, nc

The vampire facial is a treatment in which PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is delivered into the deeper dermal structure of the face via microneedling. This procedure is one of the most common and effective non-invasive skin rejuvenating procedures offered at Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte, North Carolina.

PRP, otherwise known as platelet-rich plasma, is a well-studied and documented serum that is injected in order to promote healing. It is commonly used in the orthopedic community to promote healing following an injury or treatment. When microneedling and PRP are combined, known as a vampire facial, the health and quality of the skin are greatly improved.

The vampire facelift combines microneedling with PRP, along with individual injections of PRP for some patients, into areas of concern on the face and neck. This allows the PRP to get deeper into the skin to promote healing, collagen stimulation, production of new elastin fibers, and volume restoration.

At Carolina Facial Plastics, we also offer exosome therapy as a cutting-edge option to further enhance your results. Exosomes, tiny cellular messengers, have been shown to accelerate the healing process, reduce redness, and promote collagen production. When combined with our PRP Vampire Facial, exosome therapy takes your skin’s renewal to the next level, leaving you with a more youthful and radiant complexion.

The top aesthetic destination of the south, Carolina Facial Plastics, is led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Kulbersh. With his team of cosmetic experts, a fully accredited surgery center, and a private recovery retreat all located in the heart of SouthPark, Carolina Facial Plastics is known for
unparalleled and natural-looking results exclusively for the face.

Microneedling with PRP can accomplish the following goals:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces pore size
  • Tightens the skin
  • Stimulates the production of new collagen
  • Stimulates the production of new elastic fibers
  • Improves skin texture

Adding PRP to a microneedling treatment will greatly enhance the overall results of the microneedling session. Adding injections of PRP after the microneedling treatment will further stimulate collagen production, tighten the skin, reduce pore size, and smooth wrinkles. Microneedling combined with PRP will cause a profound improvement in the facial skin. Adding PRP to microneedling is like adding horsepower to a racecar.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Platelets are a component of blood best known for stimulating the body to heal the site of an injury or trauma by clotting. When a platelet enters an injured area, it releases growth factors and cytokines to stimulate the body to create new collagen and other cells and accelerate the healing process.

When used for skin rejuvenation, the growth factors and cytokines in the plasma stimulate collagen and elastin production to create smoother, firmer, more youthful skin.

PRP is created by using the patient’s own blood. We draw a small amount of blood from the patient in our office, usually through the arm, like a regular blood draw at your doctor’s office. That blood goes through a process of centrifugation or spinning, which will separate the platelets from the other blood components. After we concentrate the platelets, a solution is created called platelet-rich plasma or PRP.

At Carolina Facial Plastics, we use the most advanced centrifuge device available; this device allows us to get the highest concentration of platelets. The blood undergoes a double spin technique, giving us 5-6 times the regular concentration of platelets. This rich concentration of platelets allows us to give our patients the best possible results.

Microneedluing with PRP in Charlotte, NC

During the vampire facial treatment, the PRP is created and placed on the face before the microneedling treatment is performed. Microneedling creates small channels into the dermal layers on the face and neck, allowing the platelet-rich plasma to penetrate to levels where it can achieve the most dramatic improvement.

As these platelets penetrate the dermal layers, they will become activated and release growth factors and cytokines to stimulate cell renewal, collagen production, and overall skin healing. This additional boost of your natural healing factors enhances the final results of the microneedling treatment.

Our patients can rest assured that our providers at Carolina Facial Plastics are highly-trained, and all patient treatments are performed under the supervision of Dr. Kulbersh. Our practice is solely focused on the treatment of the face and neck and we believe this gives us the competitive advantage of producing great results while ensuring the patient has a wonderful experience.

Frequently asked questions

The vampire facial consists of two treatments:

  • PRP added on the surface of the skin during microneedling
  • Microneedling

The vampire facelift consists of three treatments:

  • PRP added on the surface of the skin during microneedling
  • Microneedling
  • Injection of PRP into the deeper layers of the skin

The vampire facelift combines microneedling with PRP, along with injections of PRP into the face. It can be injected into many different areas, such as the cheeks, smile lines, and marionette lines. Injection of PRP into the deeper layers of the skin will promote collagen and elastic fiber production and volumize and lift the face.

The vampire facial and facelift are both very well tolerated. We use a variety of numbing creams and solutions to ensure that the patient is comfortable. There is minor discomfort during this procedure.

The vampire facial and facelift are minimally invasive procedures designed to minimize downtime. Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be red and blotchy. Most people will be able to wear makeup the next day and return to normal activities. If patients are seeking a more dramatic result and are willing to take 1 to 2 days of downtime, the aggressiveness of the procedure can be increased. By the same token, if the resumption of normal activities in a short time is preferable, a less aggressive treatment can be used to ensure a rapid recovery. It is important to relay your desires to our staff to ensure we meet your needs and expectations.

This depends on the health and quality of the patient’s skin and ultimate goals. In patients that have relatively good skin with minimal wrinkles, they may require 2-3 treatments. If patients have significant damage and an aged appearance or their goals are to get the best result possible, they may require up to six treatments. Most patients will need 3-6 treatments to obtain their desired results.

We recommend having these treatments every 4-5 weeks. This spacing will allow an additive effect of the treatments and enhance the overall results. It typically takes 8-12 weeks after the last treatment to see the final results. After results have been achieved, we recommend additional treatments every 6-12 months to maintain the quality and health of the skin.
