Universities in Charlotte

Due to the influx of young professionals, it is natural that Charlotte would have a major university. The state of North Carolina actually has a very strong state school system, with the very prestigious UNC Chapel Hill, but the overshadowed university that is prominent in Charlotte is UNC Charlotte. UNC Charlotte is located on the northeast portion of Charlotte, and it offers over 90 different majors in bachelor’s degree programs along with more than 100 graduate programs.

UNC Charlotte has a very strong sports program with several former payers moving on to play for professional sports teams. Some that are noteworthy are Rodney White of the Detroit Pistons, Cedric Maxwell of the Boston Celtics, and John Maine who played for several MLB teams over his career.

At the university, students can join a club or organization from a multitude of selections. Some include political clubs, hobbies, academic organizations, or greek life organizations. However, if there is a rare case that a student’s interests don’t match these categories, they are always welcome to start a new club that does match their interests.

During a student’s free time when they’re not studying or going to class, they can get together with friends to cheer on their home team at a variety of sporting events. They are home to a very popular college football team, the Charlotte 49er’s, and they compete at the on-campus Jerry Richardson Stadium which can hold 15,000 spectators. Students also have access to museums where they can learn more about the city they are studying in.

When it comes to on-campus housing, UNC Charlotte definitely doesn’t come short of student needs. They offer over twenty different halls that students can choose from ranging from the traditional dormitory style all the way to the more luxurious apartment-style housing. For those that are involved in Greek life, students can even live in what is called the greek village.
