PA-C from Carolina Facial Plastics consulting with a patient about the Subnovii Plasma Pen for facial rejuvenation in Charlotte, NC

Subnovii is the first plasma device to use low-frequency technology, resulting in more precise and predictable treatments and a shortened healing time. Because of Subnovii’s controlled output, the techniques can be varied from lighter to more aggressive, depending on your goals and the area being treated.

The Subnovii stimulates fibroblast activity, in turn stimulating collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. It contracts and tightens the epidermis, resulting in a firmer, more youthful appearance.

Benefits of Subnovii Plasma Pen Treatment:

  • Improving wrinkles of all areas of the face and neck such as the under eyes, smoker lines, and necklace lines of the neck
  • Non-surgical alternative to a eye lift
  • FDA cleared and scientifically proven
  • No needles—injectable anesthetic is not required
  • No cutting or open wounds on the skin
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Triggers cellular renewal and resurfacing
  • Tightens and tones skin
  • Very low risk with minimal downtime
  • Fast healing time
  • Long-lasting results

The Subnovii Advanced Plasma Device is a handheld tool that looks like a pen.

During this no-touch treatment, the device never makes direct contact with your skin. Instead, it uses voltage in the air between the tip of the pen and the natural gasses from your skin to produce a plasma charge.

The plasma energy lightly ablates the surface of the skin, stimulating your body’s natural healing process. This process stimulates fibroblasts within the inner dermis, the part of your skin that creates collagen and elastin, which is responsible for the supple quality of young skin. Subnovii plasma pen technology is popular in Europe and is quickly gaining popularity in the U.S. as an effective non-surgical treatment for wrinkles, skin lesions, and loose skin.

Plasma skin resurfacing diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, reduces scarring and blemishes, and tightens and tones the skin.

Also known as “fibroblasting,” or “fibroblast therapy,” the Subnovii creates a plasma stream of ionized gas to stimulate the production of collagen. This results in natural rejuvenation for smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin.

Areas that can be effectively treated for non-surgical skin tightening with the plasma pen are:

  • Eye bags or hooding on the upper and lower eyelid
  • Wrinkles around the eyes
  •  Fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, including marionette lines
  • Skin imperfections, such as skin tags and sunspots
  • Scars and stretch marks
  • Nasolabial folds and smile lines
  • Jowls & jawline tightening
  • Forehead lines & creases
  • Brow lifting and shaping
  • Neck lines and loose neck skin

Fibroblast treatment encourages the formation of a new skin surface, improves the elasticity and suppleness of the skin, and stimulates the production of your own human growth factors.

The procedure is performed using a topical numbing agent, and/or injection with numbing medicine. To ensure your comfort, we offer Pronox, laughing gas, if needed for your session.

Approximately 45 minutes after the local anesthetic is administered, the Subnovii handheld tool will be passed slowly over the treatment area, hovering just over your skin. Small pulses of energy create tiny wounds in the skin, leaving behind small polka dot-like scabs (known as “carbon crusts”) that fall off in about 5-10 days.

You may feel some heat in the area, but the treatment is very tolerable. Mild swelling is common immediately following treatment and may last for a few days.

The length of the aesthetic procedure will depend on the area being treated. Since the treatment is performed in-office, you can head home immediately after your procedure at our medical spa.

Your skin may feel itchy and tight as the treated area heals, and you may experience redness, swelling, flaking, or scabbing. Patients experience temporary dark spotting for the first week after treatment.

Once the scabs fall off, your skin may have a pink appearance. This is rejuvenated, fresh skin. Any redness should gradually subside within about one week of your treatment.

Downtime is minimal, and most patients are back to work and their daily activities after only a few days.

For the longest-lasting results, incorporate sun protection into your daily skincare routine on an ongoing basis after treatment.

Frequently asked questions

To ensure your comfort, treatments are performed using topical anesthetic, which will numb only the treatment area. You should feel minimal discomfort during the treatment.

You may feel minor skin sensitivity after your procedure. Many patients experience mild-to-moderate swelling and redness. This generally fades within three to four days after treatment.

Most patients are candidates for the procedure, but certain skin types may be at risk of post-procedure pigmentation issues. If the plasma pen isn’t right for you, other methods may be recommended, such as microneedling or laser rejuvenation, to achieve comparable results. Subnovii is not good for patients with darker skin tones.

Within the first week following treatment, many patients notice tighter skin. Continued improvement in smoothness and firmness are typically seen for up to three months following the treatment.

Improvements can last for up to three to five years. However, individual experiences may vary.
