Non-Surgical Eyelift

  • At Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte, one of the most popular and effective treatments our team performs is the nonsurgical eyelift. This minimally-invasive procedure addresses the early signs of aging around the lower eye area, typically due to volume loss.

A nonsurgical eye lift in Charlotte can recreate a beautiful round cheek, smooth away lower eye bags, and reduce discoloration by adding subtle volume in the tear trough. Our expert injectors, Heather Bryant, MPAS, PA-C, Amanda Piligian, PA-C, and Courtney Whitley, FNP-C, have great insight into the art of facial rejuvenation with fillers, including tear trough fillers to refresh the eyes.

What happens when the area under the eyes loses volume?

The loss of volume underneath the eye creates a few issues:

  • The plump rounded cheek is lost underneath the eye, creating a flat surface
  • Volume loss creates hollowing underneath the eye that contributes to the lower eye bags
  • The shape of the eye becomes wider and less almond-shaped
  • The laugh lines or smile lines get deeper as the cheek deflates

What is a nonsurgical eye lift?

A nonsurgical eye lift, also called a liquid eye lift, is a procedure we perform in our office in Charlotte to help rejuvenate the under-eye area. Facial fillers like Juvéderm, Restylane, Restylane Lyft, and Sculptra add subtle volume to the area to reduce fine lines, bags, and discoloration.

As we age, we lose fat in our cheeks, which contributes to lower eyelid hollows, tear trough deformity, flat cheeks, and deepening laugh lines. Eyes that do not have hollows underneath them reflect light and make the eye appear bright, awake, and vibrant. When the tear trough and eye bags appear, shadows show underneath the eyes, causing a tired and aged appearance.

Injecting the under-eye and cheek area with facial fillers softens the tear trough, hollows, and shadows. This allows for light to be reflected underneath the eyes. This allows for a naturally refreshed appearance around the eyes. It will also restore the almond shape to the eye, smooth deepening laugh lines, and create more defined cheekbones.

What are the symptoms of eye aging?

Because the skin around our eyes is thinner and more delicate than skin in other areas, it is common for this to be one of the first places to see aging symptoms. You might be a good candidate for a nonsurgical eye lift if you’re experiencing any of these tell-tale signs of aging listed below:

  • Deep eye bags
  • Flat cheekbones
  • Droopy lower eyelids
  • Dark under-eye hollowing
  • Formation of tear troughs
  • Overall facial volume loss

Because a liquid eyelift is minimally invasive and does not require surgery, it’s ideal for all patients experiencing early signs of aging. Patients experiencing more severe eyelid sagging and drooping will likely see better results with a surgical eye lift, known as blepharoplasty.

How are nonsurgical eye lifts performed in Charlotte?

Heather, Amanda, and Courtney perform nonsurgical eye lifts using a blunt-tipped cannula in place of the traditional needle. Cannulas are less traumatic to the tissues and decrease swelling, pain, and discomfort during and after treatment. Cannulas also minimize the risk of bruising after the injection. Patients who make excellent candidates for nonsurgical eye lifts include those who are just beginning to notice darker under-eye areas, lost cheek volume, tear trough depressions, and minor drooping under the eye.

What’s the difference between a liquid eye lift and blepharoplasty?

A liquid eyelift is a quick in-office procedure in our Charlotte office that uses injectable facial fillers to refresh the eyes. A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure for individuals wishing to improve more advanced signs of aging around the eyes, like sagging or droopy upper and lower eyelids. The incisions are hidden in the natural creases of the eyelid to minimize their visibility. Dr. Kulbersh performs this procedure, removing or repositioning excess fat through the incisions to create a smoother, more youthful eyelid. This minimally-invasive procedure requires more downtime when compared to a nonsurgical eye lift, but it is permanent. A nonsurgical eye lift will last 9-15 months. Patients will need to schedule regular treatments every year or so to maintain their results. People who undergo blepharoplasty may often elect to receive filler injections. This can be an appropriate complementary procedure to replace lost volume in the cheek where fat cannot be repositioned.
