Why are Professional Treatments Important?

All those in Charlotte that look great believe regular professional treatments are essential to keep skin in top condition. The reason why this is true is secondary to the ability of the face to reflect light. Light is only reflected off of a smooth surface that comes from the face. The surface of the face is the skin. Skin that has even tone and texture is able to reflect light at a high-level. When your face reflects light, a person appears rested, healthy, and youthful. Conversely, damaged skin may have fine lines, wrinkles, uneven texture or areas of darkened pigment. All of these qualities will distract from the other beautiful facial features and limit the amount of light your face can reflect.

Why Does the Skin Age?

Overwhelmingly, the main cause of facial aging of the skin in Charlotte is due to exposure to ultraviolet light. Other qualities that can affect the age of the skin include a history of nicotine use, alcohol use, poor nutrition, or a history of radiation exposure. All of these conditions harm the collagen and the elastic components of the skin and can stimulate the cells of the skin to create either brown or red spots. Similar to eating well and exercising to maintain a youthful figure, we have to properly take care of our skin in order for our face to age gracefully. nia.nih.gov talks more about taking care of your skin as you age.

What is the Approach Used for Facial Skin Care at Carolina Facial Plastics?

The key factor in our approach to treating the facial skin at Carolina Facial Plastics is a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s skin and the understanding of the patient’s goals. To achieve the best results possible, we believe in using a combination of medical grade skin care and skin care treatments. We sell a variety of medical grade skincare products at our office, which is available to our patients. Treatments available at Carolina Facial Plastics to maintain beautiful skin are micro-needling, chemical peels, IPL photo facials, and facial laser treatments.

Our medical aesthetician, Terri, often provides her cell phone number in order to help patient’s with any skincare questions. In addition, patients are encouraged to text her anytime they need new products and she will mail it or leave it at the front desk to make restocking their beauty regimen simple. When you travel we can also help with samples.

What’s the Difference Between Medical Grade Skincare Sold at Carolina Facial Plastics and the Products Sold at the Drugstore, Commonly Known as Over-the-Counter Products?

The effectiveness of a skin care product is directly proportional to the quality and strength of the active ingredients it contains. Products sold and used at Carolina Facial Plastics are of medical grade strength. Their quality is not sold at a general retail store secondary to the rules and regulations defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Patients using the strength of these products sold here have to be evaluated by a medical professional to ensure a safe treatment. Over-the-counter skincare products do not contain a high level of active ingredients and therefore have limited effectiveness and results for patients. For these reasons, it is almost impossible for patients to get the same type of results with over-the-counter skincare products as medical grade skin care products.

How Does a Patient Know Which Medspa Treatment is Best for Their Skin Type?

Our skin care team will work with patients to help guide them to the proper combination of in office skin care treatments and skin care regimes for at home use. Our variety of treatments can treat various skin issues, such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brown or age spots
  • Tiny red blood vessels
  • Loose skin
  • Enlarge pores
  • Melasma
  • Rosacea

We believe that combination therapy with one or more treatment modalities and at home medical grade skincare use will obtain a superior result rather than using a single treatment modality. We will help design and choose the best treatment combinations for our patients.

When Should a Patient Start using Medical Grade Skincare?

Patients should start using medical grade skincare or treatments during their mid-to-late 20s. At this time it is important to protect the skin and begin to treat any early signs of aging of the facial skin.
