How to Get Rid of That Babyface

If you have a babyface, or excessively full cheeks, there are a few ways to effectively alter its appearance. Buccal fat removal, cheek augmentation, and facial liposuction are popular procedures that can create facial contours for a more attractive and slender aesthetic. These treatments can slim down a baby fat face to create better proportions and a more sophisticated facial contour.

What is a Babyface?

A babyface has baby fat cheeks that create a round appearance. This is often the result of a disproportionately large buccal fat pad, which lies between your cheekbones and jawbones.

Buccal pads are common in children and teens, but often become less noticeable when people enter adulthood. However, some adults find the facial fullness remains and it can make them self-conscious of their appearance. Luckily, there are treatment options to slim this area of the face and create a more sophisticated facial profile.

How to Get Rid of Babyface

So, what’s the best treatment to get rid of a babyface? The best option will depend on your unique features. Buccal pad removal, cheek augmentation, and facial liposuction are among the most effective options for altering the facial contour.

Adding volume in strategic areas can actually make the face appear less round. Some patients can benefit from cheek augmentation to lift and add definition to the midface. Some treatments are minimally-invasive, while others are surgical and more long-lasting.

Dermal Fillers

Injectable dermal fillers can add volume and definition to the cheeks with little or no downtime after treatment. Results are immediate but temporary. Patients will need to repeat treatment every 6-12 months to maintain their positive results.

Cheek Augmentation

Cheek augmentation can also be achieved through fat transfer. Fat is removed from one area of the body via liposuction and injected into the midface to add fullness. Results last up to five to seven years, and there’s little downtime after the procedure. Fat is less predictable than fillers, so it is essential to work with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon with expertise in fat grafting to ensure the best possible result.

Cheek augmentation can also be achieved with facial implants. This surgery involves incisions inside the mouth to place the implants into the facial tissue. It takes about a week to recover and patients typically experience some swelling and tenderness during that time. The results are permanent as long as the implants remain in place.

Facial Liposuction

You can also enhance the facial contour by removing excess fat in the lower face. One option is facial liposuction, which gently suctions away the excess fat to produce a narrower facial shape. The procedure is quick and can be performed using local anesthetic in most cases. Recovery is typically just a few days.

Buccal Fat Removal

Another effective way to get rid of babyface is buccal fat removal. This surgery targets the fat pads that create the appearance of a babyface, removing a portion of the pad to recontour the lower face. Incisions are placed inside the cheeks and recovery is typically about one week. Since fat does not grow back, results are considered permanent.

Many patients can benefit from buccal fat removal. Men and women with naturally large cheeks, excess fat in their mid-face area, or asymmetric cheeks may all be candidates for this procedure. A consultation with an experienced facial plastic surgeon will help you determine whether one of these procedures is right for you.

Injectables

Some patients may have a wide jawline if the chewing muscles, called the masseters, become enlarged due to overactivity.  When this occurs, We can inject Botox to reduce the size of the masseters and aid in facial balance.
