Do you find that you are becoming more and more dissatisfied with your appearance as you get older? Whether due to age, sun exposure, environmental factors or simply genetics, many people notice that their faces become less supple and defined as time goes by. This is because as skin ages, it naturally produces less and less collagen and elastin, which are necessary components for firm, toned skin. Therefore, the skin starts to sag in various locations around the face, creating a tired, dull, and older appearance. If you’re ready to regain a more youthful, vibrant look, it might be time to consider a rhytidectomy surgery, also known as a face lift.
As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Kulbersh at Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte has extensive training and experience performing face lift procedures and achieving beautiful, natural-looking results.
What is a Rhytidectomy Surgery?
A traditional rhytidectomy procedure, or facelift, involves removing excess skin and fat tissue in order to lift the neck, jawline, and cheeks. The underlying muscles are also tightened to help elevate the facial features, such as the cheeks and temples. To ensure a quick recovery and limited scarring, Dr. Kulbersh makes sure to place any incisions inconspicuously under the chin, around the temple and hairline, as well as behind the ears.
Dr. Kulbersh believes in not only helping his patients achieve the beautiful, natural results they want, but also in enhancing each patient’s unique features. This is why the initial consultation is so important. Dr. Kulbersh likes to take the time to get to know his patients, their concerns, and the results they hope to achieve. He also strongly believes that patients should be well-informed about what to expect from the procedure, from start to finish. During the consultation, Dr. Kulbersh will also determine which nuanced techniques he will use that best suit each patient’s needs and goals.
What is the Recovery Process Like?
Recovering from a facelift procedure varies for each patient, however, at Carolina Facial Plastics, it is recommended that patients spend the first night after the operation in a private recovery suite on-site. The dedicated nurses will help monitor and tend to the patient’s needs, ensuring the most comfort and safety as possible. The following day, Dr. Kulbersh will examine that patient’s progress before clearing him or her to return home.
Rhytidectomy patients will wear facial bandages for up to a week to protect the sutures and to promote faster healing. After the first week, the patients will return to the office to have the sutures removed and the healing evaluated. Most patients will experience swelling, redness, bruising, and discomfort during the first two weeks of recovery and must avoid strenuous physical activity. Dr. Kulbersh and his staff will be available for any questions or concerns, 24/7, throughout the recovery process.
