Nose Tip Surgery FAQ
How will my tip plasty procedure go?
Dr. Kulbersh might use either an open or closed technique for nasal tip shaping. For the open technique, he makes a small incision in the columella, which is the tissue that separates the nostrils. Through the incision, he reshapes the nasal tip by manipulating tissue, bone, or cartilage. The open approach is typically performed when the patient requires more extensive nasal sculpting.
A closed approach involves making an incision inside the nostrils. This technique is often used for minor adjustments to the nose. Since all incisions are confined to the inside of the nostrils, there is no visible scarring.
Tip plasty is a shorter procedure than traditional full rhinoplasty. Depending on the patient’s case, it will take Dr. Kulbersh an hour or so to complete the surgery.
In some cases, patients may benefit from a non-surgical rhinoplasty. During this procedure, our team of expert injectors place dermal fillers in precise areas to smooth out bumps, reshape or enhance the nasal tip and projection, and improve nasal symmetry. Our injection team includes Heather Bryant, PMPAS, PA-C, Amanda Piligian, PA-C, and Courtney Whitley, FNP-C. While non-surgical rhinoplasty can already provide a satisfying outcome, only surgery can produce permanent results.
What does recovery look like?
Tip plasty recovery time is shorter compared to a full rhinoplasty. Most patients return to work or school in 1 week. Expect bruising and swelling in the days and weeks after surgery which should resolve naturally. Any pain and discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. Strenuous physical activities must be avoided for at least 3 weeks, and the head must be kept elevated when sleeping.
Does it hurt?
Tip plasty is a quick procedure that is well tolerated by patients. Most patients will require Tylenol for pain control. Those who strictly adhere to Dr. Kulbersh’s nose tip plasty post-surgery aftercare instructions tend to have the smoothest and most comfortable recovery process.
