Have you gradually become more and more dissatisfied with your facial appearance, noticing that the skin has become loose and saggy? As we age, our skin typically produces less collagen and elastin, which are vital components for giving the tissue more volume and elasticity. Additionally, sun damage can dramatically weaken and age a person’s skin, making it more likely to appear dull and baggy. If you’re ready to turn back the hands of time and regain a more youthful, vibrant appearance, please do not wait to schedule a consultation at Carolina Facial Plastics. Dr. Jonathan Kulbersh is a double board-certified facial and reconstructive plastic surgeon with extensive experience performing traditional facelifts.
What is Involved with a Traditional Facelift?
Every patient is unique and requires careful care and expertise to ensure that they get the natural-looking results that enhance their beauty and appearance. Dr. Kulbersh believes in creating a personalized treatment plan to ensure that each patient receives the most beautifying results possible for their features. The initial consultation is very important for ensuring that not only the patient’s needs and goals are understood, but also that Dr. Kulbersh can determine which nuanced techniques to use in order to achieve the best possible results.
A traditional facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, essentially involves removing excess fat and tissue from around the neck, tightening specific underlying muscles to lift the neck, chin, and cheeks, as well as removing any excess skin. Dr. Kulbersh performs the procedure in such a way that any incisions are placed inconspicuously under the chin, behind the ears, and round the temple and hairline to ensure that any scarring is minimal and concealed.
Recovering from a Traditional Facelift
Following the facelift procedure, patients will have bandages applied t o help the healing process. Patients are advised to spend the first night at the Carolina Facial Plastics private recovery suite so a dedicated nurse can monitor and tend to the patient’s needs. The next day, Dr. Kulbersh will evaluate the patient’s health and safety before clearing him or her to go home.
Patients can expect to wear bandages for at least one week, only removing them temporarily to shower or for specific tasks. The patient will return to the office for a follow up and to remove the sutures and a dressing change. Patients will experience swelling, bruising, redness, and discomfort for at least two weeks, during which the patient must avoid strenuous activity and steam baths or saunas. Throughout the recovery period, Dr. Kulbersh and his staff will be available any time of day or night to discuss any questions or concerns that may arise.
