The Cool Peel is the latest, cutting-edge, CO2 laser skin treatment in the country.
CO2 lasers are the gold standard in laser skin treatments of the face. They are known for giving the best results in improving skin texture, pigment, and wrinkles.
Historically, the downside of CO2 laser treatments was the long recovery and higher risk profile that many doctors and patients were unwilling to tolerate.
All of these issues have been solved with the innovative and revolutionary CO2 Cool Peel offered at Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte.
The top aesthetic destination of the south, Carolina Facial Plastics is led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Kulbersh. Our experienced team, including Heather Bryant, MPAS, PA-C, Amanda Piligian, PA-C, Courtney Whitley, FNP-C, and Terri Edson, medical aesthetician, all perform our nonsurgical treatments like the Cool Peel.
With a fully accredited plastic surgery clinic, and a private recovery retreat all located in the heart of SouthPark, Carolina Facial Plastics is known for unparalleled and natural-looking results exclusively for the face.
The Cool Peel will improve:
- Fine lines and wrinkles of the face, neck, mouth, and under eyes
- Brown spots and pigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Loose skin
The Cool Peel boasts the most advanced technology of any C02 laser. Special features allow this device to provide CO2 resurfacing-like results without the downtime and risk.
- The laser treats the skin at a high-speed rate (0.3milliseconds), allowing for a higher energy level. This fast application of the laser prevents damage to other critical surrounding structures to significantly decrease downtime while still providing the expected results.
- Traditionally, CO2 lasers worked in a geometric grid technique. This approach can leave markings after the treatment. With the Cool Peel, the laser treats the skin with a random but controlled method that prevents these issues.
- The Cool Peel does not attempt to get the final results in one aggressive treatment. Instead, the skin continues to improve over a series of approximately three treatments every four weeks. Spreading the treatments out allows for significantly less downtime, with typically only 24-48 hours of minimal redness.
We can tailor the recovery after a Cool Peel treatment to each patient’s needs, goals, and lifestyle. The Cool Peel typically requires minimal downtime.
At the lightest setting, the Cool Peel will feel and look like a sunburn for one night. The next day, the patient will appear a little sun-kissed but should experience no pain.
Some patients may opt for higher settings to get more impressive and faster results. This approach would result in 2-4 days of mild swelling and redness.
Exosome therapy at our office can help support your healing journey post-treatment. By directly applying exosomes to your skin following the procedure, we’ve observed remarkable outcomes in reducing redness and expediting the recovery process. Many of our patients have shared their experience of a noticeable decrease in redness within just 24 hours after undergoing exosome therapy after their laser treatment, which is significantly quicker compared to the usual 48-72 hours. Exosomes also contain growth factors that play a role in stimulating collagen production and addressing sun damage-induced pigmentation, contributing to a more rejuvenated appearance.
Nons-urgical treatments are commonly combined to improve the overall results. We frequently combine the Cool Peel with:
Profound RF microneedling – The addition of Profound RF to the treatment will create more tightening of the lower face and neck skin
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) – Adding PRP to the procedure can further improve the quality of the skin
Facelift – A Cool Peel can be completed at the same time as a facelift or a mini-lift to improve the quality of the skin.
Botox and Fillers – Dermal fillers are used with facial lasers to improve the balance and proportions of the face. Botox can improve fine lines and wrinkles of the face secondary to repetitive facial movements.

Frequently asked questions
A Cool Peel can be tailored to the patient’s skin quality. Healthier skin will require fewer treatments at a lower setting while skin with more damage will require higher settings and more treatments.
The wonderful aspect of a Cool Peel is its versatility to be able to safely and effectively treat all stages of the aging process.
The Cool Peel is great for patients in their 20’s all the way to patients in their 80’s.
One of the exciting aspects of the Cool Peel is that it can also treat the skin of the neck and décolletage. This feature will ensure that the facial skin will match the skin quality of the neck and chest region.
All other laser treatments of the face are attempting to mimic the results of CO2 laser treatments.
We believe this is the first CO2 laser that has been able to decrease the aggressiveness of the CO2 in a manner that minimizes risk and downtime without dramatically decreasing the quality of the result.
The Cool Peel can be completed without any numbing medications.
The Cool Peel has a variety of settings. At the lightest setting, the Cool Peel feels like a warm sensation on the skin. It does not require any topical numbing medications.
As the Cool Peel is turned to a higher setting, a topical numbing cream is used and the treatment causes minimal discomfort.
A full-face CoolPeel CO2 laser treatment can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the extent of the correction needed.
The CoolPeel CO2 laser has been designed to offer a safe and effective skin resurfacing treatment through shorter, more comfortable sessions that require virtually no downtime. However, all lasers come with the risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, especially for people with brown or olive skin tones.
Side effects and risks are minimized when the procedure is performed by a skilled and experienced provider.
When you come to our medical spa for a consultation, we can outline these risks and help design the most appropriate treatment plan for your concerns and goals.
At Carolina Facial Plastics we provide our patients with topical products to be applied to the face to help speed the recovery and improve the results.
Some patients may opt to combine PRP (platelet-rich plasma) with the Cool Peel to improve the results and speed up the recovery process.
Depending on your age, skin type, and skin condition, the results of a CoolPeel CO2 laser treatment can be long-lasting once your treatment plan is completed.
Many patients enjoy their renewed appearance for one to two years or more after treatment. Longevity will also depend on the precautions taken and your lifestyle after your treatment.
At Carolina Facial Plastics, we will work with you to create a maintenance plan to help optimize and maintain your results.
