Get a Non-surgical Eyelid Lift with UPNEEQ

As individuals age, elasticity decreases in the eyelid causing it to droop downward for a tired-looking appearance. Severe cases of droopy eyelids can impair vision or negatively impact appearance.

A surgical eyelift, known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure with recovery time. For patients that do not want to invest the time and expense in surgery, daily applications of UPNEEQ offer a noticeable improvement without pain or downtime.

Dr. Kulbersh and his team of experts at his Charlotte, NC, plastic surgery clinic work closely with patients to identify specific conditions and concerns, as well as the appropriate treatments necessary for natural transformations.

What is UPNEEQ?

UPNEEQ is an FDA-approved once-daily eye drop that treats low-lying upper eyelids. A droopy eyelid can make you appear tired and even older than your actual age.

When used as prescribed—one dose, once a day—you can open up and refresh a droopy eye to shave years off your appearance.

What is Acquired Ptosis?

Ptosis—or blepharoptosis—is the medical name for droopy eyelids. Blepharo means eyelid, and ptosis means sagging.

Sagging or droopy eyelids can be acquired over time due to aging and elastin depletion in the dermal structure. Droopy eyelids can also be caused by poor surgical procedures, medical conditions, non-surgical treatments like Botox, and genetics.

In some cases, sagging eyelids can be congenital, which means they were present from birth. UPNEEQ can only treat acquired ptosis, which is drooping due to any of the factors listed above.

Sometimes, the cause of ptosis is unclear, and your doctor may recommend an eye exam to ensure there are no underlying medical conditions before starting a treatment.

How Does UPNEEQ Work?

UPNEEQ is an eyedrop with 0.1% Visine or oxymetazoline hydrochloride. It is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that triggers the muscle inside your eyelid to contract and lift.

One drop per eye per day is used to lift the eye for noticeable improvement and a younger-looking appearance.

In some cases, more extensive treatment may be necessary for severe ptosis that interferes with vision, but for mild-to-moderate ptosis, UPNEEQ is an innovative solution.

How do I use UPNEEQ?

UPNEEQ is administered once daily to stimulate and lift the eyelid muscle.

Use just one drop of UPNEEQ in the morning for fast results and a refreshed appearance that can last 6-8 hours.

UPNEEQ comes in a single-use vial, with 30 vials per box. The medication binds to a receptor on a targeted muscle in the upper eyelid, contracting the muscle for a lift of the lid of up to 1 mm within approximately five minutes after application.

Frequently asked questions

Is UPNEEQ safe?

UPNEEQ is an FDA-approved treatment that can help lift eyelids for a younger-looking appearance. When used correctly, once a day, it can produce visible changes for 6-8 hours. It is a safe and effective treatment that uses tested ingredients to stimulate eye muscle contractions. While most patients do not experience adverse effects, some may experience redness, dryness, or irritation.

Am I a candidate for UPNEEQ?

If you are looking for a non-surgical way to address tired, drooping eyes, UPNEEQ may be right for you. Patients who do not want surgery or cannot have surgery for medical reasons can use daily drops for a quick lift. Carolina Facial Plastics works extensively with patients to educate them on their condition and possible treatment options. Dr. Kulbersh helps patients choose the right treatment for natural and younger-looking results.

What are the side effects associated with UPNEEQ?

Though not common, patients may experience side-effects from UPNEEQ, including:

  • Irritation
  • Dry eyes
  • Redness
  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Eye pain

Does UPNEEQ work with Botox-induced ptosis?

Some patients might find that Botox injections can lead to drooping of the upper eyelid if the neuromodulator is not placed correctly or migrates after treatment. Since there has been no way to address the effects of neuromodulators in the past, patients would have to live with the low-lying lid for 3-4 months until the treatment wore off. Now, some patients may be candidates for UPNEEQ drops to reverse the negative effects of a poorly performed neuromodulator like Botox.

When will I see results?

Patients see results within five minutes of use and can expect to see an average of 1mm lift on the upper eyelid. Results last most of the day, for approximately 6-8 hours.
