Are you bothered by a double chin or jowls along the jawline, due to aging or weight fluctuations? These changes to the face can make us look older and heavier than we really are. Facial liposuction addresses these concerns to turn back the clock and enhance your facial contour.

The top aesthetic destination of the south, Carolina Facial Plastics, is led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Kulbersh. With his team of cosmetic experts, a fully accredited surgery center, and a private recovery retreat all located in the heart of SouthPark, Carolina Facial Plastics is known for
unparalleled and natural-looking results exclusively for the face.

Dr. Kulbersh uses advanced liposculpture techniques to provide you with the best results possible. He uses a special instrument, called a micro-cannula, which is much thinner than older liposuction instruments. The narrow cannula allows Dr. Kulbersh to artistically sculpt the treatment area with precision with less trauma to surrounding tissue. Dr. Kulbersh’s advanced techniques result in less downtime and scarring for his patients.

Patients in good overall health with fatty areas on the face that are resistant to diet and exercise are good facial liposculpture candidates. Facial liposuction is a procedure to sculpt troubled areas like the submental fat that often forms under the chin due to weight gain, genetics, or the aging process.

Doctor Kulbersh is giving consultation to his patient for a facial liposuction at his office in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Kulbersh can perform liposuction procedures on the following areas on the face and neck:

  • Jowl formation along the jawline
  • Submental fat that creates a double chin
  • Excess fat around the neck

During your consultation with Dr. Kulbersh, he will assess your face and your trouble zones to determine which areas will benefit from liposuction. His customized treatment plans ensure natural, beautiful results for all his patients.

There are many different types of liposuction to choose from today. It is a good idea to understand the various treatment options when you are considering a facial liposuction procedure. Dr. Kulbersh prefers the tumescent liposuction technique, as this approach offers superior results as a facial treatment with minimal downtime afterward.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a wet liposuction procedure that injects a solution of epinephrine and a local anesthetic into your fatty tissue. The solution causes the fatty tissue to swell, making it easier to remove unwanted fat and contour the treatment area. Dr. Kulbersh then removes the fat through a cannula.

Super-Wet Liposuction

Super-wet liposuction is similar to tumescent liposuction in that it utilizes a solution injection to make fat cells more visible for easy removal. However, the treatment involves a smaller volume of solution. The main drawback to super-wet liposuction is that it requires general anesthesia to perform. Dr. Kulbersh does not use this technique for facial liposuction.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction

During laser-assisted liposuction, the doctor directs laser energy into your treatment area to heat the fat cells. This technique causes the fat cells to burst and melt. When this technique is used, the removed fat cannot be placed into other areas of the body, since the fat is liquefied prior to elimination.

Radiofrequency-Assisted Liposuction

During radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL), the doctor inserts a radiofrequency transmitting electrode through a small incision in the treatment area. Like laser-assisted liposuction, RFAL liquefies the fat for easy removal.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) directs sound waves into your targeted treatment area to dissolve your fat cells. This approach also damages the fat cells so they cannot be reused in other areas of the body.

Power-Assisted Liposuction

Power-assisted liposuction (PAT) uses a handheld device to vibrate and break apart your fatty tissue, making it simple to remove through a cannula. This approach is not as common as the other techniques, as the results do not tend to be as precise.

Tumescent liposuction is a safe, effective procedure that requires no general anesthesia and minimal downtime. Since this form of wet liposuction causes unwanted fat to swell, it becomes firm enough to remove and contour with ease. Compared to other forms of fat removal, tumescent liposuction is more precise and causes less pain, bleeding, and bruising. The skin atop the removed fat is also less likely to sag or wrinkle.

Because fat is easier to remove with tumescent liposuction, Dr. Kulbersh can even use it in other areas of your face that may be lacking volume.

Facial lipo is a minimally invasive procedure and is generally performed under local anesthesia. The areas of fat that you want to be removed will be isolated and then treated with anesthesia.

Dr. Kulbersh uses tiny incisions to insert the cannulas in the treatment area, which are typically too small to leave much visible scarring behind. He then uses the cannula and suction to gently remove the excess fat.

While some patients elect to have facial liposuction as a stand-alone procedure, others choose to have it performed in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures. Dr. Kulbersh commonly performs facial liposuction in conjunction with a facelift or facial implants to further enhance your results.

Recovery from facial liposuction is relatively minimal. You will wear a snug elastic dressing over the treated area for a few days and possibly at night for a few more weeks. You will need to ice your face for a few days to alleviate pain, bruising, and swelling. Most patients return to their normal daily activities 2-4 days after the procedure.
