5 Best Reasons to Have an Upper Blepharoplasty

The eyes are the windows to our souls.  The eyes portray our feelings and emotions as they are responsible for approximately 70% of our non-verbal communication of the face.  One of the unfortunate aspects of the eyes is the eye region is one of the first areas to show signs of aging.  As a facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte, I believe one of the best operations patients should consider in their early stages of aging is an upper eye lift or upper blepharoplasty.  Upper blepharoplasty is one of the most common facial plastic surgery operations.  In this blog, I want to give the 5 best reasons to have an upper blepharoplasty in Charlotte.blepharoplasty before and after in charlotte nc

Reason 1 to Undergo an Upper Blepharoplasty

The first reason why patients should undergo an upper blepharoplasty is to create eyes that appear awake.  As the eye region ages, there can be formation of excess skin of the upper eyelid.  This excess skin can blunt or hide the eyelid crease.  The loss or shrinking of the upper eyelid crease can create an eye appearance that is fatigued or sad.  During an upper blepharoplasty, a new and defined eyelid crease is created.  This opens the eyes and removes the tired and fatigued appearance.

Reason 2 to Undergo an Upper Blepharoplasty

The second reason to undergo an upper blepharoplasty is that it is a quick in-office procedure.  Patients take a few pills to relax them about 2 hours before the surgery.  The surgery can be completed at the office in very little time with little discomfort.  It is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the procedure.  An upper blepharoplasty in the office can take about 45 minutes to 1 hour.  After the procedure, many patients do not require medication for pain because of the minimally invasive nature of the surgery.

Reason 3 to Undergo an Upper Blepharoplasty

The third reason to undergo an upper blepharoplasty is that it is an overwhelming safe procedure.  Of all of the surgeries I perform, an upper blepharoplasty typically has the smoothest recovery.  While there is always risk involved with undergoing surgery, an upper blepharoplasty has a very high chance of going well with a high level of patient satisfaction.  During a consultation, I will explain all potential risks of undergoing the procedure.

The fourth reason to undergo an upper blepharoplasty is the results look great and natural.  My goal is to enhance the natural facial features of my patients and not to change the character of the face.  In the technique that I use for an upper blepharoplasty, the eyes will appear bright and open.  I take a conservative approach and limit any removal of fat in the upper eyelids.  I believe the removal of fat in the upper eyelid will change the shape of the eye and create a hallow appearing eye.   There will be times where I will move fat from a full area of the face to an area that is sunken.  This will decrease the shadowing that increases around the eye during the aging process.

Reason 5 to Undergo and Upper Blepharoplasty

The fifth reason to undergo an upper blepharoplasty is that it is a relatively inexpensive procedure.  I think an upper blepharoplasty is one of the best “bang for your buck” procedures.  Patients can permanently take years off of their appearance at the same price point some patients will pay for injectable treatments such as Botox and facial dermal fillers.
