What is the Typical Recovery After a Facelift at Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte?

Once patients decide to undergo a facelift at my practice in Charlotte, typically, the next question is in regards to recovery time.  While everyone heals differently, I offer general guidelines of what the typical recovery time is in my practice.  The first night after surgery, I may recommend that patients stay in a private recovery suite with their personalized caretaker.  That evening, their main responsibility is to drink liquids and eat light food.  I ensure that they have pain medication and medication for nausea in case needed.  The  face will be wrapped that evening.

The following day after a facelift, I see patients in my office (I will also see patients in my office on Saturdays if they undergo surgery on a Friday).  At that time I will take off the dressing and show the caretaker and/or patient how to clean the incisions and apply the dressing.  The incisions are then cleaned 2 times a day for one week.  For 1 week, the dressing is worn 24 hours a day except to clean the incisions or wash the hair.  Patients most common complaint during this time is boredom because they have to take it easy and not exert themselves.

7 days after a facelift patients are seen back in the office and all stitches are removed.  For the next week, the wrap for the face is worn at night for one week.  The incisions no longer have to be cleaned, but they are kept moist to ensure the best healing.  At this time, mineral make-up can be applied.  If the patient desires, we have estheticians that specialize in applying this make-up after surgery and we can arrange for a personalized appointment to ensure we will be having you looking good just 1 week after surgery.  10 days after surgery patients can begin to undergo light exertion.

14 days after a face lift, a special silicone cream is then placed on the incision 2 times a day.  This is another step that ensures that the incisions heal the best. At this time, most, if not all, of the bruising has resolved.  The swelling will continue to improve over the next 8-12 weeks, but patients typically look and feel good at this time.

As a facelift expert in Charlotte, I take many steps to ensure that patients have the smoothest and fastest recovery possible.  At all times during the recovery process, I am available for any questions or concerns and I will see patients in the office at anytime if required.
