How to Ensure an Optimal Rhinoplasty Recovery

Charlotte RhinoplastyWhen a patient decides to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure, it is crucial that they choose an experienced, highly qualified surgeon to have the best possible outcome. As a North Carolina rhinoplasty expert, there are several steps we advise our patients to follow in order to help ensure the outcome is successful and that they experience the easiest rhinoplasty recovery possible.

Preparing for Rhinoplasty

During our consultation and after we have decided upon a treatment plan, we will give you detailed pre-op instructions. Following these instructions will prepare you for the procedure and aid in the rhinoplasty recovery process. One important component of the preparation for rhinoplasty is to stop smoking prior to surgery. We generally advise patients to not smoke for about a month prior to the procedure, as smoking constricts the blood vessels and can slow down the healing process.

It is also important that patients do not take medications or supplements that inhibit blood clotting when preparing for a rhinoplasty. Ibuprofen, aspirin, and certain herbal supplements are known to prevent blood clotting and can impact the healing process. We suggest our patients let us know of any and all medications they are taking prior to surgery so that we can recommend the appropriate pre-op preparation plan.

There are herbal supplements that we do suggest our patients take starting a few days before surgery and continue after the surgery.  The herbal supplement, Bromalin and Arnica Montana, are known to help with bruising and swelling in the post-operative period.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

After your rhinoplasty in Charlotte, it is important to carefully follow post-op instructions to ensure a smooth recovery. We will meet with you regularly during your recovery at follow-up appointments so that we can guide and monitor your progress. We will have follow-up appointments one day, one week, and two weeks after your surgery.

For the first week or two following rhinoplasty, it is common to experience swelling, bruising, and some discomfort. We will prescribe appropriate pain medication to manage the discomfort, but most patients only need this medication for the first few days. We will remove your stitches and splint at the one week follow up and you should be able to resume work shortly thereafter.

As a Beverly Hills trained rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Kulbersh has a few tips for his patients to ensure the best possible rhinoplasty recovery:
