Blepharoplasty & Insurance Coverage With Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Kulbersh
Dr. Kulbersh: Hi this is Dr. Kulbersh from Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte, NC. Today we’re going to be talking about upper lid surgery or upper eyelift blepharoplasty. And the question is, is it covered by insurance? Generally speaking, Blepharoplasty is not covered by insurance if it’s done for aesthetic or cosmetic reasons. Now, there are times when the extra tissue of the upper eyelids get so loose and so baggy that it actually causes the upper eyelids to come down to where that they squint over the eyes and if that is the case and it prevents you from seeing up high, then in those instances they can be covered by insurance. We can tell if the tissue is impeding your ability to see high by a simple test done by an ophthalmologist or by an optometrist. If you come into the office and that is a concern, I will refer you to those doctors and they will send me the results of those tests and then we’ll see if it can be covered by insurance.
